Keith said: “My career began in engineering and technology, where I progressed to senior Director roles in international businesses, with full P&L responsibility and dealing with complex, international multi £million projects at a strategic, product design and marketing level.

“Throughout this time I learned a huge amount about communication – within large organisations, across geographic and cultural borders; between potentially adversarial business associates and with customers.  I saw examples of extremely poor communication styles and methods, based on conjecture and delivered sporadically; much of what I do today has been informed by knowing, what not to do, as well as through best practice and industry standards.

“Throughout my career, successes with the my team, in influencing senior management and securing business with suppliers and customers, always hinged on good communication.  Technical capability, market-leading products and services were not enough – my ability to devise and implement a communication and branding strategy was what enabled me to achieve excellent commercial results.  As a consultant, collegiate working is both necessary and inevitable – it has also formed my approach throughout my career.

“I am very proud of what we have achieved with Aegies Associates, a business I set up and built from scratch to become one of the leading consultancies in the North East, which consistently punches above its weight in a national as well as regional context.  My work ethic has always been strong and my willingness to be readily available to meet client needs – being flexible, taking long and often anti-social hours as part of the job – has undoubtedly been part of my success.

“‘Full service’ communication strategies and solutions have been the backbone of the business. I am often engaged by clients to undertake a relatively narrow piece of work, which gradually mushrooms to take account of the whole business story – one of my points of difference has always been to bring business insight from real experience.  Actively engaging with new and emerging media trends has also been a point of difference for me – new media channels have also made news development much more fluid and I pride myself on my agility in changing environments. I understand the importance of reputation and much of my business has developed by recommendation and client insight into what I actually deliver.”
